Supermoon

Well, I’m sure there will be many blog posts from photographers about the supermoon so I thought I would throw mine into the mix too. I met up with another photographer, Ryan, who I met through twitter to shoot the moon coming up over the city. He didn’t stay too long because his newborn needed to be fed. I look forward to seeing his shots too. It is always nice to meet someone face to face whose initial contact was through social media. Anyway, here are some of the shots that I liked. I did try some different things like moving the focus ring while the shutter was open and I like the results, a dreamy feel to the lights. Continue reading »

Portland, Maine

Here in Portland there is a great thing that happens on the first friday of every month where art galleries are open and business feature local artists and serve refreshments and wine. This First Friday Art Walk has a huge following and troves of people turn out to visit the galleries and see the art, while enjoying some wine and cheese. Maybe it’s more for the wine and cheese and the art is an extra perk. Either way it is a great place for local artists to display their work, from sculpture to photography to media insulations, it really runs the gamut. I had some ideas that I wanted to do for this event and I think it was a pretty good success as a first time venture, and can only improve the more I do it. Continue reading »

Portraits of Entry

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

Well I have been thinking of doing some personal projects to keep me shooting and creating. I don’t know where this fascination came from, maybe the mystery of what lies beyond, but I have found some interesting doors in my walks. Each one has it’s own character, like a portrait of the residence. I do have a few rules to it. It has to be with my 50mm lens and has to be a straight on shot, no angles. Also, any indication of address, like numbers are not included, or removed from the image to protect the location. Enjoy the slideshow of the ones I have found so far. More locations are in the works.

Who knows what may come of it or how long it goes for, maybe a coffee table book or something. I just need something to keep my creative juices flowing and this is that thing for the time being until the warmer weather comes back around. Just wanted to share what I have been working on and thinking about.

A Walk in the Woods

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

I often find myself needing a walk in the woods to clear my head. My most recent one wasn’t due to stress but rather because I felt like it. That is a new feeling for me; not having to release stress, and I kind of like it. This one was exceptionally nice because I got up early and was out on the trail in the Fore River Sanctuary by 7:30am. The sun was just rising and the air was still.  I had the camera but even if I didn’t it would have been an equally enjoyable hike. It was also my first snowshoe of the year.  I am relaxed and ready to take on the world.  I think this needs to be a weekly occurrence even if I don’t need it.

Here are some shots from the walk.
