Here in Portland there is a great thing that happens on the first friday of every month where art galleries are open and business feature local artists and serve refreshments and wine. This First Friday Art Walk has a huge following and troves of people turn out to visit the galleries and see the art, while enjoying some wine and cheese. Maybe it’s more for the wine and cheese and the art is an extra perk. Either way it is a great place for local artists to display their work, from sculpture to photography to media insulations, it really runs the gamut. I had some ideas that I wanted to do for this event and I think it was a pretty good success as a first time venture, and can only improve the more I do it.
My manager at Life is good® has been a great influence on showing my work and has done a lot to promote me. This month I held a raffle for a print, of the photo at the top of this post, and tickets were sold for a dollar and the money went directly to the Life is good® Kids Foundation. We raised $16.00 for the Kids foundation, not bad for not much promotion or advertisements. I think this will be something that I would like and our store will do in the future, and could be a great fundraiser for the foundation. We also strayed from the typical wine and cheese and served a local Maine beer, Baxter Brewing Co.‘s Stowaway IPA, and pretzels. I wanted to feature this beer because a good friend of mine is the owner of Baxter and helped with my original website and I wanted to promote his passion and the good beer that he has developed. Brewing beer is an art form and was a good fit for our showing. We had a pretty good turn out for being off beaten path that is the Art Walk. Here are some shots from the event. I love being able to give back to a wonderful cause with my art.
